Overview
4 days Congo gorillas and Nyiragongo hike a fantastic safari that is designed for travelers who want to track gorillas and also engage in hiking experience. This safari will expose you Virunga national park where you will be tracking gorillas and then hike mountain Nyiragongo which is the only place where you can see magma boiling which is the most adventurous experience that you will enjoy in a lifetime.
This safari will also involve Kigali city tour where you will visit genocide center, local markets, former presidential palace, artisans where you can decide to buy souvenirs. This safari will start from Kigali and end in Kigali.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: City tour in Kigali and transfer to D.R. Congo
On this first day, you will be picked by our driver guide who will greet you, take you through the itinerary and then start with city tour. Start by visiting the genocide memorial center where you will be played videos and listen to audios of that was taking place then, later head to visit former presidential palace, visit local markets, visit different artisans and thereafter, have lunch en-route in the city. After lunch, you will depart for Congo and today’s destination will be Goma where you will have an overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park
You will wake up in the early morning for a delicious breakfast, get your lunch packed and be transferred to the park headquarters where you will be briefed about gorilla trekking etiquettes. You will be allocated a gorilla family to track then head to the forests to search for gorillas.
You will be led by ranger guide who will be helping you to locate the gorillas, spend an hour with them while taking pictures and videos, you will enjoy how they play, how they move, how they eat, and it is going to be an amazing experience for a life time. You will return to the lodge to relax, enjoy dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Hiking Mountain Nyiragongo
On this beautiful day, you will wake up in the morning, enjoy a mouthwatering breakfast and be transferred to Kabatsi which is the hiking starting point. You will be briefed about the hiking, hire porters who will help you carry your bags, and then set off, and this will take you about 5 to 6 hours depending on your hiking fitness. Have lunch on the way as you hike, arrive at the top in the afternoon hours, relax, take breath and in a while, you will start taking pictures of the magical view.
You will be in position to see Virunga national park, Goma town, Mountain Rwenzori in Uganda, Volcanoes national park and Mgahinga national park, Lake Kivu, you will keep at the mountain till night since boiling lava is best viewed in the night. You will have your dinner at the top of the mountain, enjoy your dinner and then visit the crater to have a clear view of the boiling lava, hereafter you have watched the lava for a long time, and you will retire to the tent for an overnight.
Day 4: Checkout and departure
Wake up in the morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast and descend the mountain, arriving in Goma will be in the afternoon, you will have an en-route for lunch and thereafter, depart Congo for Kigali and this will mark the end of your safari.
