5 Days Flying gorilla trekking safari in Bwindi NP; mountain gorillas are still highly endangered even though their numbers have greatly increased in the past ten years bringing the total numbers to about 1070 gorillas left, in 3 Volcanoes ranges of Uganda, Congo and Rwanda with close to half population staying in the Mountain national park of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the Virunga Mountains in Uganda (Mgahinga Gorilla National Park), Rwanda (Volcanoes National Park) and Congo (Virunga National Park) sharing the rest of the numbers.
So, this makes Bwindi the only place where you’re guaranteed 99% chances of seeing these gentle giants. Expectations: Immense Gorilla tracking, Aerial views of western Uganda & the local people.
Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe airport.
Your guide will be there waiting for you. Pick up and proceed to your accommodation. (If time allows, you can do a city tour of Kampala).
Day 2: Transfer to Entebbe Airport for flight to Bwindi NP.
After breakfast, drive to Entebbe airport for your flight to Bwindi Impenetrable using a small plane. We spend the night in or very near Bwindi. The area of gorilla trekking will be determined by permit availability as there four gorilla trekking zones and they are all accessed by flight to a nearby airstrip and later road transfer to the lodge; Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo the earliest flight takes 1 hour 30 minutes to reach than 9-10 hours’ drive when using road transport from Entebbe.
You will spend the rest of the afternoon resting at the lodge or get involved in a community walk to see the local people who live around the park and also the indigenous Batwa who used to be the forest dwellers until 1992 when serious conservation started and they were evicted from the forest to the community where they now live harmoniously with the locals. Activities; Morning or afternoon flight & community experience.
Bwindi Impenetrable is a unique jungle, with many monkey species. Bwindi is one of the 4 national parks in the world where you can find Mountain Gorillas!
Day 3. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Early breakfast, pick your packed lunch and extra drinking water, you will go for a short briefing at the park offices to orient you on the dos’ and don’ts’ while you go for this amazing and life time experience. You will meet the rangers and guides at the office in company of a group of community entertaining group which tells you the stories of their culture through songs and traditional dances.
You will later be briefed and the next thing is to start the walk to look for Gorillas, time spent in the forest is un predictable so we recommend some level of walking fitness for about 5 hours or more. For those who feel they can’t make it alone there is a team of support staff who can be hired at a low fee and this is a form of supporting them and encouraging conservation of these gentle giants which are at the verge of extinction and considered highly endangered by IUCN. When you meet them, spend an hour with them and come back to the lodge.
Day 4. Second Gorilla trekking tour in Bwindi National Park.
You will pass through the same process like the previous day of visiting the park offices for briefing and later join the rangers for tracking but today it will be a different Gorilla family from the one you tracked the previous day.
Today will be rewarding as you already know more about the gorillas but each family has a different kind of life at each time of the day. Later return back to the offices for certificate awarding. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 5. Fly from Bwindi to Entebbe.
Morning breakfast in Bwindi forest and Fly back to Entebbe for your connecting flight back home.
