star rating  I have been to Uganda several times caring for an NGO, but now we visited the country together with our child. We travelled in 2015 but there was no other... read more possibilty to put in another date. Since I write about travelling with a child I think it doesn't matter that I did not write short after the trip. Thanks to our guide and driver Bob Magezi of Emerald of Africa/Gorilla Experience Safaris who always noted the needs of a child during our tour. Lucky Natukunda planned the trip perfectly. All the time there was no problem travelling with a child, we always felt safe. We had some great experiences watching tree climbing lions, a thirsty elephant who entered a restaurant compound to drink from an open tap, We saw many monkeys, apes, hippos, lions, a leopard and thousands of birds. We met many families (our NGO supports a Primary-School, two High Schools and several college-students, so we have many contacts at he schools). Bob Magezi drove us carefully and always valued safety especially close to the border of the Congo. We stayed in several different accommodations from luxury to small and familiar, e.g. Bird Nest at Lake Bunyonyi or Gorilla Friends Lodge in Buhoma where I can really recommend the food. The plates at Gorilla Friends Lodge were always full of delicious meals and I still love the avocados. And I really want to mention the hopitality at this small lodge.
If you travel to Uganda you should care to have all vaccinations and malaria prophylaxis. In Buhoma is an excellent hospital for almost every case of emergency (grateful that we didn't need it, I just know the hospital and its reputation because I volunteered there some years ago). We travelled with 3 adults and a child and had the possibility to adjust the whole trip according to our wishes. Also during the tour it was possible to discuss and realise a change. Probably you'll be interested in the route: We started in Entebbe/Kampala. Our friend, who accompanied us, flew from another city and she missed the the connecting flight in Dubai because of a sand storm. The following day we should be at the chimpanzee trekking in Kibale. Although that problem Bob was always calm and everything went well. From there we went to the northern Queen Elizabeth National Park, then passing by Ruwenzori mountains and staying overnight in Kasese, then we were heading forward to the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park near Ishasha. From there we drove to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where we stayed in Buhoma. Our friend who travelled with us did the Gorilla Trekking and loved it. We didn't because children under 15 are not allowed to trek the Gorillas because of safety and childhood-diseases. I saw the gorillas several times before, so for me that was no problem. For parents who both want to do the Gorilla Trekking, they could go on different days or there might be found a child care if parents and children are comfortable with this. There are further trip possibilities like getting to know how the Batwa-Pygmies live, a village walk, hiking at a waterfall-trail or see the new visitors-center. It is also possible to visit the hospital and see how it is organised. After Buhoma (don't miss to attend church on sundays, it is very different to Europe), we drove through Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Kabale where we visited a student at the African College of Commerce. From there to Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mburo National Park where we met this beautiful leopard which you can see on my photos.
I apologize if my English is not perfect, I'm not a native speaker and I live in Germany.
I wish all of you, who plan to visit Uganda, an exciting and interesting holiday! It is one of the most beautiful countries you could visit!

  • star rating  I've visited Uganda numerous times over the past 10 years, both for work and holiday. On my most recent trip (May 2019) I was incredibly lucky to get to work... read more with Asiimwe Bob Magezi and Gorilla Experience Safaris, and I have now permanently identified a first choice guide and driver for all of my future visits. I happily and highly also recommend Bob's services to others. While there are many different options for transport around the country, there were a few things that really set Bob apart. First, he is extremely professional and prepared. We had utmost confidence from start to finish, and all of his recommendations were on target. Second, his combination of flexibility and knowledge were effective and efficient and made a big difference. All requests for itinerary and sightseeing changes were received positively, and multiple times we were impressed when Bob then made some quick phone calls to one or more of his numerous local contacts (seemingly everywhere!) to help the updated plan go smoothly and work well. You can't go wrong with this guide and driver choice.
