This 10 Days Rwanda and Uganda safari gives you a wholesome experience of the pearl of Africa and beautiful sceneries in Rwanda as you track the primates.
Day 1: city tour – visit Nyamata genocide memorial and Kigali genocide museum.
You will be met the driver guide at your hotel in Kigali at 9am. You will drive for about 30 minutes to Nyamata genocide memorial. This place has an old church where hundreds of Rwandans who ran to this church for safety were kill. There is also a mass grave where some of them were buried. From Nyamata you will drive back to Kigali where you will have lunch and visit the Kigali genocide museum. At the museum, you will learn about the genocide that happened in Rwanda and also visit a mass grave. Accommodation: Hotel 2000
Day 2: Transfer to Uganda Bwindi
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and transfer to Bwindi. Cross the Rwanda and Uganda katuna border and proceed to Bwindi. This journey takes about 5-6hours. Accommodation: Buhoma Haven lodge.
Day 3: Nature walks and Batwa visit.
Drive to Buhoma park headquarters after breakfast at the lodge, where you will be briefed the park guide about the park. You will then do a nature walk through the thick forest that leads to the waterfalls. The trek takes about 3-4 hours and trekkers can swim in the water at the base of the falls or in the river. Return to the lodge refresh, relax and have lunch. Later in the afternoon visit the Batwa community. The Batwa people are the indigenous people of the forest, they lived in the forest before it was gazetted as a national park. You will learn about their culture and lifestyle. Dinner and overnight as above.
Day 4: Transfer to QENP – game drive in Ishasha – boat cruise
After breakfast at the lodge, you will check out and transfer to Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national park – a home to tree climbing lions. You will do a game drive to look for the lions and as you look for the lions, you will expect to spot other animals like waterbucks, buffalo, elephants, topi, warthog, kobs among others as well some birds. You will then proceed to the Mweya peninsula where you will have lunch as you prepare for the boat cruise. In the afternoon, enjoy a 2-hour boat ride on the Kazinga Channel where you will encounter Buffaloes, Elephants, Hippos, kobs plus warthogs among others. You will also expect to spot various water bird species like, egret, African fish eagle, African jacana, among others. Dinner and overnight as above.
Day 5: Game drive and transfer to Kibale national park
Have a cup of coffee at the lodge and then embark on an early morning game drive in Kasenyi. There are trails you will follow as you look for the animals. You will expect to spot animals like elephants, buffalo, lion, hyena, kobs, waterbucks, warthog, among others as well as various savannah bird species. Return to the lodge, relax and have lunch. You will then drive to Kibale forest national park. Accommodation: Kibale forest camp
Day 6: Chimp trekking and bigodi walk.
On this day, you will drive to Kibale forest national park headquarters after breakfast at the lodge where you will be briefed about chimpanzee trekking and the park in general the park ranger guide. You will then start the trek through the forest to look for the chimps. Unlike gorillas, chimpanzees keep moving around the forest and jump from one tree to another as they go about their daily life. So do not expect to find them in one place. As you trek the chimps, you will expect to see other primates that live in the forest like, monkeys, baboons and mangabey as well as various bird species like the great blue turaco. You will then return to the lodge refresh and have lunch and check out.
Day 7: Transfer to Murchison falls national park.
Enjoy an early breakfast at the camp, check out and transfer to Murchison falls national park. You will take pleasure in the gorgeous scenery of this countryside which makes the journey more exciting. The journey takes around 5-7hours with a lunch stop over along the way. Accommodation: Fort Murchison lodge.
Day 8: Boat cruise and hike to the top of the falls
After a late breakfast at the lodge, you will drive to Murchison dock, where boat park. You will do a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile, which is part of the river Nile, which will lead you to the bottom of the falls. You will observe various animals like elephants, crocodiles, large numbers of hippos, buffaloes, waterbucks and also birds such as the storks, fish eagle, pied kingfishers among others.
While at the bottom of the falls you will have a great time watching the magnificent waterfalls. The boat will leave you at the bottom of the falls where you will take a 30-minute trek to the top of the falls. You will see the point where the waters of river Nile squeeze to pass through an 8 meters distance. The water pours make a roar like sound. The guide will be there waiting for you and transfer back to the lodge.
Day 9: Game drive – morning and evening
Take an early morning drive through the park after an early breakfast at the lodge. The tour guide will lead you to the finest places to easily see the animals. The game drive takes between 2-4 hours. You will expect to spot animals like lions, giraffes, kobs, waterbucks, leopard, buffalo, elephants, Jackson’s hartebeest, waterbucks, among others as well as various water bird species. Drive back to the lodge for lunch. Later in the evening you can also do an evening game drive where you will expect to spot more animals as they go back to sleep and also chances of seeing nocturnal animals are high. Dinner and overnight as above.
Day 10: Drive to ziwa rhino sanctuary – proceed to Kampala/Entebbe
After breakfast at the lodge, you will drive to ziwa rhino sanctuary where you will track the rhinos. This activity takes about 30minuts to 2 hours. You will expect to spot the white rhinos feeding or resting in the sanctuary. You will then continue to drive to Kampala/Entebbe. The driver will drop you at your hotel or at the airport for your flight back home.
